Practice Primary Painting Using Magazine Images
There is no shortage of beautiful imagery when it comes to looking for natural landscapes to paint. You don’t even need to get off your couch. Just pick up a recent Texas Highways magazine to behold the wonder of color and light as it dances on meandering streams, tumbling green meadows, endless azul skies- you get the picture. But how to paint such marvels is a question artists have been asking for centuries.
Here’s my quick tip: gently tear said picture from its binding and paint directly onto the surface, layering lights to darks. Simple exercises like these will help with color matching and placement. It also makes for creative sketchbook ideas.
