Painted Collage Owls with 1st grade
Not much beats a good owl project in the fall. I experimented with some painted paper and owl templates I found on pinterest until a well rounded project emerged for first graders to make. Students learned about texture, collage, mixing colors, and how to paint in a different way.
To make the collage you'll need a variety of paper, glue and scissors. I printed out this template from pinterest.

To make the painted paper I used red, yellow, silver glitter paint, metallic gold paint, a sprinkle of gold glitter and a dribble of glue. I then combed it all through with a pick.

Once the paper dries repeat the cut out owl, only larger. Use scrap paint paper for wings on the baby owl. For personality I had the eyes of the owls looking at each other, well that was the goal.
