how to pastel a wayne thiebaud cake with 3rd grade
The general: The secret is there is no secret. Pick 5 to 6 colors and blend, blend, blend.
The specific: Draw an outline of a cake with a missing slice. Pick 2 sets of complementary colors + white = 5 colors. Next, label each part of the cake so that the same two colors don't touch.
The secret: (okay there are a few secrets)
Highlights: mix the white into the color already down on the paper, get it real dirty. Then use that white to add frosting on the side of the cake. Watch as all your previous colors blend into the white. It's really pretty.
Shadows: use complimentary colors to create shadows. Using shadows in the right places make your cake look realistic, just like Wayne Thiebaud's cakes.
In the end I decided to add an outline of chocolate colored pastel because I love chocolate.
