Choosing the best art work to represent your school can be painful. You don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but art is a visual commentary on what you've been doing all year. After so many years of putting elementary art shows together I thought I'd share a few do's and don't's I follow:

Do:
Group art by grade then in piles of yes's, no's and maybe's
Hide names
Look for contrast & composition & color

Don't:
Leave it to the last minute (I start collecting show worthy work in September)
Favor certain students (embrace the student you felt was least inspired)
Don't settle for "meh" (Ask a student that is on their way to a promising piece if they can come in during lunch/recess/after school or before school)
