2011 Houston Via Colori

2011 Houston Via Colori

This weekend was the annual Via Colori Street Painting Festival in downtown Houston which benefits the Center for Hearing and Speech. I was delighted when I was asked to come back as an artist this year. To celebrate the occasion I chose a new style of art I've recently become obsessed with, Celtic knot work. The triquetra I chose is an ancient symbol that can be found in Celtic art, the Book of Kells and Christian art work. It's modern meaning in Ireland today is believed to represent the three promises of a relationship; love, honor and protect.

You can say I fell in love, honored and protected this 10x10 piece of asphalt I was given for the weekend. It was hard to leave knowing that the street sweepers would make it disappear before the morning light. It was also hard to get up this morning. I think next year I'll prep with a strict yoga workout before, during, and after.

A special thanks to my wonderful family that helped me finish this labor of love and to all my friends that came by to visit. It was worth it!

One last look... sigh! I'll miss that corn dog and funnel cake smell :)
